Electives for the Fall semester




Here are some electives that are still open and might be of interest to some of you. CIS 3367 – Spreadsheet Applications in Business
Spreadsheet modeling is typically used more often than we imagine. This course gives you a hands-on approach to spreadsheet modeling to solving business problems. We have three sections available.
CIS 3750 – Social Media Technologies in Organizations
Learn how social media works (or doesn’t) in organizations. Interesting topics such as online media strategy, social media & CRM, and crowdsourcing are discussed. And you get a chance to read a book like ‘Cognitive Surplus’ by Clay Shirky.
CIS 4093 – Special Topics in Computer Information Systems: Business Intelligence
This course is at the front and center of the area of big data/business intelligence/data analytics. It gives you an overview of what you need to know to take the first step in this area. This nicely complements other courses that we offer on data mining, data warehousing, etc.
CIS 4100 – Object-Oriented Programming II 
For those you want to follow-up on what they learnt from CIS 3100…
CIS 4350 – Computer Control and Audit 
Those of you who have not considered a career in IT auditing, this course could prompt you to do that. Just follow the link above to explore the interesting set of topics in this course.
CIS 4550 – Networked Information Systems Security
Network infrastructure, security framework, cryptography basics, security policies, wireless security, etc… A great set of topics that was, is, and will be in demand in the industry.
